Variability in walking patterns such as toe walking is typical during child development and will often normalize without intervention in children who do not present with plantar flexor contractures or neurodevelopmental diagnoses. However, when ankle range of motion is lost, children are at risk for changes in talus bone structure, altered joint and muscle function, and delayed progression of gross motor skills.
